Discovered on 18 February1930 by Clyde Tombaugh, Pluto was originally classified as the ninth planet from the Sun. However, its status as a major planet fell into question following further study of it and the outer Solar System over the ensuing 75 years. Its getting crowded – part 2
Sputnik 1, the first artificial Earth satellite was launched into an elliptical low Earth orbit on 4 October 1957. Since then thousands of satellites have been launched and currently there are more than 1000 operational satellites in earth orbit. Here is a multi-panel version of a comic I did earlier. Have fun!
Its getting pretty crowded up there!
As of now, there are more than 1000 operational satellites in earth orbit. Apart from that, there are 21,000 objects more than 10 cm in size up there. Whereas, the number of debris or small bits, with size ranging between 1 cm and 10 cm in size, is more than half a million. Its getting pretty crowded up there!
